All Nippon Airways (ANA), one of Japan’s leading airlines, was shaken by an incident during a Tokyo-Seattle flight. A 55-year-old passenger on flight number 118 bit the arm of a cabin crew member, causing the plane to return to Tokyo.
According to the official Kyodo news agency, the incident occurred on the plane. The passenger, who was subjected to the crew’s intervention after biting the cabin crew member’s arm during the flight, was immediately arrested when the plane returned to Haneda Airport.
The passenger was charged with “causing harm to a cabin crew member.” The individual, who is a US citizen, claimed during police questioning that they didn’t remember the incident due to taking a sleeping pill before the flight. The passenger stated that they took the pill due to suffering from insomnia, but it unexpectedly led to this incident.
Following the return of the plane to its point of origin and the arrest of the passenger, a detailed investigation into the incident was initiated. While the passenger faces the charges, the potential effects of the incident on flight safety will also be evaluated.
ANA, the airline company, has not made an official statement regarding the incident, but it has been reported that other passengers on the continuing flight are trying to recover from the shock of the incident. Information regarding the delay caused by the incident and other possible effects has not yet been disclosed to the public.
