Hülya Yıldırım, who works at a textile workshop in Fatih, claims to have been deceived by her colleague M.R.B. with promises of profit. Yıldırım stated that M.R.B. told her, “I inherited a fortune. I am getting into the gold business. I will give you a share of the profit so that we can earn more.” After initially making regular payments, M.R.B. disappeared, leaving Yıldırım and 30 other victims in financial ruin, with a total loss of nearly 6 million TL.
Yıldırım revealed that M.R.B. promised her profit by arranging loans and providing cash advances. While the payments were made regularly in the first few months, M.R.B. disappeared three months later, claiming to go and collect his inheritance from his village. Following the complaints of the victims, M.R.B. sent an audio recording to Hülya Yıldırım. In the confessional audio recording, M.R.B. explained the predicament he was in and the difficulties he faced. He admitted, “I had stopped the game, but then I returned. I was trying to keep the system running with other people’s money,” stating that he was trying to resolve the situation he found himself in.
Yıldırım stated that M.R.B. gained their trust by showing off his wealth to her and the other victims. M.R.B. would come to the textile workshop every day with “bundles of money” and claimed to be involved in the gold business. He would sometimes show the gold he brought and say, “I bought these as gifts for my wife and daughter,” deceiving the victims.
Hülya Yıldırım, one among the 30 victims, called out to the fraudster, saying, “You ran away with so much money. You’re not paying back our money. We are all after you. Either pay us back or surrender. Let us have peace of mind as well.”
The textile workshop scam in Fatih, along with the emotional hardships experienced by the victims and the confessions of the fraudster, continues to make headlines.
