Tevgere Jinen Azad (TJA), the Free Women’s Movement, has published a rebuttal in response to Akşam Gazetesi’s article titled “Operation on the Free Women’s Movement of the PKK”.
The statement highlights the increasing violence and massacres against women and emphasizes that women who fight against this are targeted by the male-dominated government. The statement also points out that the perception operations attempted through the male judiciary and media, which are under the control of the government, are a continuation of these attacks. It is stated that the mud media of the government, which cannot tolerate the freedom struggle of Kurdish women, has once again demonstrated this.
The statement emphasizes that the activities of TJA, which is a Kurdish women’s movement, are being criminalized. The statement states, “The news prepared and shared by Akşam Gazetesi and the visual prepared regarding the news is the clearest evidence of this. The information mentioned in the news does not reflect the truth in any way. The ‘International Women’s Experiences Symposium’ organized by TJA in collaboration with international women’s organizations, with the invitation of Mor Dayanışma, at the Museum Gazhane Stage affiliated with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, is not a criminal activity, but a symposium on combating violence against women and solidarity. The visual in question used in the news is not a hall belonging to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, but a hall where our conference ‘Breaking the Walls Around Women Political Prisoners: Silence Chain’ was organized at Diyarbakır Demir Hotel on January 13-14, 2024.”
TJA is a structure that carries out its activities with an original and autonomous organization, which is a source of inspiration for all women around the world, and fights for Kurdish women’s freedom and against violence against women. It is emphasized that TJA is not affiliated with any specific location. The arrest of our female comrades in the operation carried out on January 16, 2024, is a result of this government’s hostility towards Kurds and women. We announce to the public that we will file a criminal complaint against the newspaper in question and that we will never allow the criminalization of TJA’s activities.
